San Antonio won both meetings earlier this season in the AlamoDome to raise its homecourt series margin to 27-16. Portland finished off the series last season by beating the Spurs on their own floor, 91-71, ending a five-game San Antonio win streak, the Spurs longest in the series between the two teams.. The last two meetings --- Twice Portland saw second half leads evaporate in San Antonio, going down to 111-103 and 87-83 losses on Dec. 19 and Jan. 26 respectively. In the first one, the Blazers had the lead 93-92, with seven minutes remaining but the Spurs, behind David Robinson, rallied for the win. The San Antonio center tallied 10 of his game-high 31 points in the fourth quarter. Clifford Robinson led Portland's scoring with 25 points. In the second game, also in San Antonio, the Blazers led by nine late in the third quarter but again came up empty. Trouble with free throws doomed Portland this time. The Blazers, who shot a season-low .478 at the line, missed six of 10 in the crucial final period. The 83 points was an all-time low Portland output versus the Spurs. Harvey Grant's season-high 24 led five Blazers in double-figure scoring in the second contest. In the two games, both teams had nearly identical 41 percent efforts from the field but Portland was just 52 percent (29-56) at the line while San Antonio was hitting at 73 percent clip (48-56). The Blazers were ahead by eight, 73-65, at the start of the final period and had the lead, 90-87 with two minutes remaining but came up empty the rest of the way. It was their fourth loss in a row and their fifth straight at home, equalling their longest homecourt losing streak in 23 years. Clifford Robinson topped all scorers in the game with 25 points, including 13 in the third stanza. Portland finished shooting 46 percent (36-78) from the field while limiting the Hawks to a 42 percent chart (32-77). Harvey Grant led Blazers' rebounders with 8 but Atlanta had a 47-39 edge on the glass. Attendance nears all-time record --- The Blazers attendance total in the new Rose Garden jumped to 520,939 after Sunday night's crowd of 20,250 for Atlanta. With 16 games left on the home schedule, the overall total is only 7,469 shy of breaking the club's 26-year mark for a regular season. Portland's all-time regular season record was 528,408 for three consecutive years in the 12,888 capacity Memorial Colieum. Those totals came during a span when Portland set an all-time NBA sellout record of 810 consecutive games over 18 seasons. The 25-game average of 20,862 is the fourth highest in the league behind Charlotte, Chicago and Toronto.
