The attached self-extracting ZIP file includes updated files for The 7th Guest, including a new V.EXE file, INSTALL, and sound drivers. To make use of it, please download and copy T7G-FIX.EXE into the directory on your hard drive where The 7th Guest has been installed (usually C:\ID\T7G). Once T7G-FIX.EXE is run, you will be asked if you wish to replace files. The answer is obivously "yes", unless you wish to first back-up the affected files. This update should solve the following problems: o VESA-in-rom problem. If your particular video card contains its VESA driver within the video bios rom of the card, the new V.EXE should detect an externally loaded VESA driver. This has been tested successfully on a number of Cirrus Logic video cards as well as the Diamond Viper (running the latest VESA driver available from Diamond Computer Systems). o S3-type video card support. The S3-type cards are now supported in MCGA mode. SVGA mode is just too slow. o Error 20/02 Sound Buffer Failure. This new version should eliminate sound buffer problems for Sound Blaster compatible sound cards. If the Sound Blaster drivers are chosen for Speech, these errors should no longer be encountered. It is currently recommended that SBPRO, SB16, and PAS16 card owners try use this fix in conjuntion with the Sound Blaster speech driver if you are suffering from Error 20 or Error 02. o Tandy MPC IRQ 10 support. The new install should allow IRQ 10 select for TANDY MPC computers which feature this setting. The 7th Guest can report information about what it detects as your video card - just type "V ?" from within your installed T7G directory.
