PC SOCKS Pack
=============
File: NOTES

This file contains various notes that I've made or recieved from
others about the applications in the PC Socks Pack. There are some
bug reports here and perhaps some other goodies. You might or might
not see the bugs on your own setup but this might provide some useful
reference so you don't feel alone. :-) It's pretty much organized
by application and date.

WINTEL-s
--------

Date: Tue, 22 Mar 1994 13:57:55 +0000 (GMT)

We do have one persistent problem with the Telnet client. We
ALWAYS get an error pop-up at startup (CLOSE/IGNORE). If we
hit CLOSE we get a general protection fault at 0001:0fbc (I'm
not a WINDOWS type, so I don't know how useful these addresses
are). However, if we IGNORE, everything proceeds ok.

The fonts and font selections don't work properly unless you
set the font control panel (in Windows manager) to show ALL
fonts and not just truetype. We originally didn't have this
	set, and hit problems.

If we get a failed connection, for whatever reason, the Telnet
exits and we can't start another one: we get a general
protection fault in USER.EXE at 000b:0097.

Connections to local hosts (directly reachable) using a
fully-qualified domain name fail with `'; if we use just the
local system name, everything is OK.

ck> I've not been able to reproduce the 1st and last things
ck> mentioned in this note but there are plenty other things
ck> that seem to GPF in this buggy telnet. The 2nd thing
ck> mentioned you might have to play around in your Control
ck> Panel. The 3rd item I hope to track down and make it
ck> behave better. Better yet, anyone got a better WINSOCK
ck> Telnet client SOURCE that could be SOCKSified?

WS_FTP-s
--------

Date: Tue, 22 Mar 1994 19:12:39 +0000 (GMT)

Limited number of characters in the Name: input dialog and
can't enter all of some hostnames.

Another FTP problem: if I let the code prompt me for my
password when connecting with my user id to my own unix
machine and then later ask the ftp to do a local mkdir on my
pc - guess what. I get my password displayed in plain text as
the default in the mkdir window!!! Not quite what you would
	expect or desire!

ck> Use a nickname in the Name: input and enter the full host
ck> in the Host: field which can have more characters. About
ck> the password thing, I patched this in WS_FTP-s4.1b.
