ck> ============================
ck> File: WINTELS\README.TXT
ck>
ck> Original TELNET version: unsupported beta 3
ck> SOCKSified version: WINTEL-s4.1b
ck>
ck> Following this header are the contents of the INSTALL.TXT file
ck> that came with the original WINTEL distribution.
ck>
ck>
ck> !!!!!!!!!!
ck> IMPORTANT! You must first follow the instructions in the README
ck> file and INSTALL file in the top directory of the PC Socks Pack
ck> distribution before installing this application.
ck>
ck> NOTE: This TELNET application currently has lots of bugs. I've
ck> pretty much left it "as is" in that regard from it's original
ck> release. If it works for you, that's good but I'm sure you'll
ck> encounter some bugs. In the meantime, I'm looking for the source
ck> to a better behaved TELNET application.
ck>
ck>
ck> -----------
ck> DESCRIPTION
ck> -----------
ck> The WINTEL-s application is a SOCKS compliant Telnet client
ck> application for Windows Sockets. It is intended for use on PC
ck> clients that reside behind a network firewall that do not have
ck> direct access to the outside world (e.g. the Internet) but do have
ck> direct access to a SOCKS version 4.0 or above proxy server.
ck>
ck> It is based on the NCSA Telnet for MS Windows (unsupported beta 3)
ck> that can be found at various ftp sites in source and binary form
ck> (please see the COPYRGHT file included in this release). The
ck> SOCKS compliant code was added by Cornell Kinderknecht
ck> <cornell@syl.dl.nec.com> to form the WINTEL-s release.
ck>
ck> THIS SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND,
ck> EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. SEE "COPYRGHT" FILE FOR FULL STATEMENT
ck> AND DISCLAIMER.

ck> ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
ck> ===============
ck> My major effort in this software was only to add the code
ck> necessary for SOCKS compliance. The original author of the
ck> package deserves all credit for the original package itself and
ck> the user interface. I sincerely thank the author for creating a
ck> fine package and for making it available. If there are any
ck> questions related to the SOCKS part of this package, they should
ck> NOT be directed to the original author but to me instead (see
ck> COPYRGHT file). --- Cornell

NCSA Telnet for MS Windows (unsupported beta 3)

Note: this software is currently unsupported...you are welcome to use
it but don't expect much help if you have problems...

Known bugs:
   - No telnet negotiations... prvents connections to some hosts. If you
get a few characters of garbage at the top of the terminal window
when you try to connect... this is your problem... will be fixed once
     the project is "resurrected"
   - Various vt100 emulation bugs...

Quick installation instructions...
----------------------------------

1) edit [hosts] in wintel.ini to specify common hosts that you connect to...
you may also specify backspace or delete (see examples)

2) copy wintel.ini to you Windows directory

3) copy screen.dll to your windows\system directory

ck> 4) Create an icon for WINTEL.EXE in a Program Manager Group. The
ck> default group is the "PC SOCKS Pack" Group.
