 PatchDiag Tool
 ==============

 Revision: 1.16

 Version: 1.0.2

 Description
 ===========

 The PatchDiag Tool is a diagnostic tool that enables system administrators
 to examine a profile of the patches installed on their Solaris system against
 the most current profiles available from Sun Microsystems with respect to:

  - latest revisions
  - recommended patches
  - security patches
  - year 2000 patches
  - other patches relevant to the software environment

 The results of PatchDiag Tool can help a system administrator quickly
 determine and analize the need for applying additional patches or
 newer revisions of existing patches.

 Installation instructions are below. After installing the PatchDiag Tool,
 see the patchdiag_userguide file for usage information before running the
 tool.

 PatchDiag is a compiled Perl script. The Perl source is in the file
 patchdiag.pl.

 Installation
 ============

 1:	From the PatchDiag Tool web page download the tar.Z package
	containing the PatchDiag Tool files. The web page URL is:

	http://sunsolve.sun.com/sunsolve/patchdiag/

 2. Uncompress and untar the tar.Z package in the directory that you
 	prefer. (For help, see the "uncompress" and "tar" man pages.)
        A patchdiag tool subdirectory will be created.

 3.	You should now have the following additional files in this patchdiag
        tool directory:

	COPYRIGHT
	README
	patchdiag_setup
	patchdiag_userguide
	patchdiag.1m  (patchdiag man page)
	patchdiag.sparc
	patchdiag.i386
	patchdiag.pl

 4.	From the PatchDiag Tool web page download the cross-reference file.

	Place patchdiag.xref in an appropriate directory.
	This file contains latest data about all patches and must be
	accessible to everyone who will run the Patchdiag Tool.

 5.	Run the patchdiag_setup script while in the same directory as
	the patchdiag executable files.

	All users must have access to the patchdiag.xref file
	in order to run patchdiag successfully. The patchdiag_setup
	script creates the patchdiag script, which sets the XREF variable
	that contains the location of the patchdiag.xref file.

 6.	Refer to the patchdiag_userguide file for further usage information
	before invoking this tool.
