CALS

The CALS (Continuous Acquisition and Life-cycle Support) raster format is output by CAD/CAM applications and by applications used by industries which contract with the U.S. government and military. All technical publications, especially those that include technical graphics, used by the federal government must conform to the CALS standard.

CALS was developed by the U.S. Department of Defense to standardize graphics data interchange for electronic publishing. As a result, CALS is used by many contractors with the U.S. government and military.

CCITT Group 4 encoding is used for CALS files.
