Configuring SMTP Event Notification
User Access: Administrators and Managers: full access; All users:
view current configuration (read only).
You can configure the system to do the following:
- Send e-mail via an SMTP server for generated events.
- Route e-mail based on the severity of the events.
- Send e-mail containing only a subject (short format) or a subject and content
(long format) to support various target devices such as phones, pagers, etc.
Configuring SMTP event notification enables the appropriate individuals to
quickly respond to critical situations or be aware of specific events.
SM Console Usage:
Follow these steps to configure automatic SMTP email alerts:
- Click Configuration
SMTP
Event Notification from the menu bar.
- Enter the SMTP server name (either the host name or IP address of the SMTP
server to which email will be routed.)

- For each severity (informational, warning, and critical events), enter a
comma-separated list of e-mail addresses (which can be groups defined on the
SMTP server) to which email will be sent. You can have separate lists of addresses
using either a short or long e-mail format.
- Click the
button
to save the settings.
SM Command Usage:
You can also use the sp smtp subcommands
to perform this function at the command line.
Notes
- Separate multiple e-mail addresses with commas.
- You identify pager e-mail addresses separately so that the amount of content
for pager e-mail can be reduced as appropriate.
