Troubleshooting: Fan Speed Issues

CAUTION: Do not attempt to service the system except as explained in the documentation. Only trained service technicians should remove the system cover to access any of the internal components. Refer to the documentation for your server for complete safety information before attempting to service your system.

If you receive a fan-related error message or the front-panel status LCD indicates a problem with cooling, you may be experiencing a fan speed issue.

Cooling of the entire system or individual components inside the system can be affected by the following conditions:

Ambient temperature surrounding the system may be too high.
Airflow intake or output for the system may be obstructed.
Cables inside the system may be obstructing the cooling fan intake or output.
An individual cooling fan has failed or is improperly installed.

To maintain proper cooling while the system is on, ensure that none of the conditions listed above exists. If an individual cooling fan has failed, replace the fan. Refer to the documentation for your server for instructions about how to replace components.

Run the diagnostics tests for fan modules to locate and diagnose problems with fans.
