Patch-ID# 100401-01 Keywords: front load tape, driver, SCSI host adapter, sm0, missing data, FLT Synopsis: SunOS 4.1.1: front load tape doesn't reliably read tapes Date: 10-Oct-91 SunOS release: 4.1.1 Unbundled Product: Unbundled Release: Topic: kernel/driver BugId's fixed with this patch: 1065300 Architectures for which this patch is available: sun4 Patches which may conflict with this patch: Obsoleted by: 4.1.2 Problem Description: The front load tape drive doesn't reliably read tapes. There are no console messages complaining about read errors, however the data is not always fully read. When they experience the error, the tape blocks are shorter than they should be. This problem is also intermittent, i.e., they often get different results if they read the tapes multiple times. This has been determined to be a problem with draining the dma gate array at the conclusion of a transfer. INSTALL: As root: mv /sys/sun4/OBJ/sm.o /sys/sun4/OBJ/sm.o.FCS cp sun4/sm.o /sys/sun4/OBJ/sm.o A new kernel will then have to be configured (/etc/config) and built. Please refer to the System and Networking Administration Manual on building and installing a custom kernel.
