OBSOLETE Patch-ID# 108555-02 Keywords: A3000 RSM2000 firmware DACstore Synopsis: OBSOLETED by WITHDRAWN Date: Mar/08/00 ***************************************************************** This patch is intended as a point patch for customers with unusual circumstances. The patch introduces the following constraints that most customers do not really want: 1) Further RM 6.1.1 controller firmware patches can not be applied. 2) Upgrades to RM 6.22 and beyond require all affected LUNs to be backed up to tape, deleted and then recreated after the upgrade. If this patch is required at a customer site it must be obtained via the escalation CTE process. ****************************************************************** Solaris Release: 2.5.1 2.6 7 SunOS Release: 5.5.1 5.6 5.7 Unbundled Product: Sun StorEDGE RAID Manager Unbundled Release: 6.1.1 NOTE: update 1 and update 2 Relevant Architectures: sparc BugId's fixed with this patch: 4252057 Changes incorporated in this version: Patches accumulated and obsoleted by this patch: Patches which conflict with this patch: Patches required with this patch: 106513-04 Obsoleted by: WITHDRAWN on Mar/17/00 Files included with this patch: /usr/lib/osa/fw/02050660.apd /usr/lib/osa/bin/raidutil.exec /usr/share/man/man1m/raidutil.1m Problem Description: Corrected README documentation to clarify installation, and effect on existing LUNs. (from 108555-01) 4252057 Different capacity available after a disk replacement in A3000 LUNs created with RM 6.0 and 6.1 have a different size internal storage area, called the DACstore, reserved in them. Since later versions of RM 6 use a larger 40MB DACstore, some problems can arise running under RM 6.1.1. In particular disk replacement can be problematic. Further, if there is no room on the LUN to increase the DACstore by off-loading data, recreating the LUN and reloading data, the user had no recourse. This patch preserves the 2MB DACstore in old LUNs while allowing normal operations including disk replacement. Patch Installation Instructions: -------------------------------- Refer to the Install.info file for instructions on using the generic 'installpatch' and 'backoutpatch' scripts provided with each patch. Any other special or non-generic installation instructions should be described below as special instructions. Special Install Instructions: ----------------------------- See FIN I0557. The firmware included as a part of this patch must be downloaded using the RM6 maintenence application. The firmware included in this patch will not be automatically selected because it doesn't appear in the fwcompat.def file. Therefore the filename must be entered manually as described in the User's Manual. This patch is offered to support customers who did not recreate LUNs with the 40MB DACstore. As such, it is only a workaround and not a long term solution. To use later versions of Raid Manager such as RM 6.22 or even to be able to use patches which update the array firmware or raidutil, will REQUIRE upgrading all LUNs to 40MB DACstore since this patch is incompatible with all future releases and patches. This patch should be compatible with the existing cluster support patch 106707-02 and the Solaris 7 support patch 106552-03. When used in conjunction with patch 106707, the firmware from this patch must be downloaded last since it contains the fixes in the 106707 patch firmware. The proper order to load patches is 106707 (or 106552), 106513-04, then this patch. Note the firmware in 106513-04 supercedes firmware in 106707. Since patch 106513-04 is required for this patch, the firmware level needs to be at 2.5.6.xx before loading the firmware in this patch. After the application of this patch, a full size LUN (using all available capacity) that is created using the configuration application GUI will show a remaining capacity of 38 mb times the number of data drives in the LUN. This remaining capacity may be recovered and made available to the user by deleting the LUN and creating it using the command line utility raidutil with the -s argument equal to 0 (zero). See the raidutil man page for correct usage of this utility. This patch will not cause the DACstore size on any drive to be changed. To cause any existing drive to return to a 2MB DACstore: option 1) Replace the drive (for unused drives or hotspares) option 2) Delete the LUN and recreate it (for drives used in a LUN).
