The proper method to use and any additional instructions, for this patch are specified below in the "Special Install Instructions" section. Refer to the chapter entitled "Patching Sun Cluster Software and Firmware" in the "Sun Cluster 3.1 System Administration Guide" for a description of the different install processes and instructions on how to install Sun Cluster 3.1 patches. Refer to the man pages for instructions on using 'patchadd' and 'patchrm' scripts provided with Solaris, to install and remove patches. Special Install Instructions: ----------------------------- 1. Before applying the patch, disable the agent's fault monitor. 2. To install, use the patch installation procedure for a "Non Rebooting Sun Cluster Patch" as described in the "Patching Sun Cluster Software and Firmware" chapter of the "Sun Cluster 3.1 System Administration Guide". 3. Enable the agent's fault monitor after the patch installation is complete. For information about how to configure Sun Cluster HA for Sybase ASE, see Sun Cluster Data Service for Sybase ASE Guide for Solaris OS. Additional information that you require if you are using Sybase ASE 12.5 or 12.5.1 is provided in the subsections that follow. How to Install the Sybase ASE Software -------------------------------------- Replace the Note after Step 8 in this procedure with the following instructions: For every Sybase ASE server, specify the host name that is associated with a network resource. If you do not specify a host name that is associated with a network resource, Sybase ASE starts only on the node where the Sybase ASE software was installed. Some versions of Sybase ASE, such as 12.5, prompt you for the host name. Other versions of Sybase ASE, such as 12.5.1, use the physical host name. If your version of Sybase ASE uses the physical host name, you must change the physical host name to specify a network resource. * If the Sybase ASE installer prompts you for the host name, type the host name in response to the prompt. * Otherwise, modify the interfaces file to change the physical host name to a host name that is associated with a network resource. How to Create the Sybase ASE Database Environment - Prerequisites ------------------------------------------------------------------ The fourth item in the list of prerequisites states that the Sybase ASE environment consists of the data server, backup server, monitor server, text server, and XP server. To this item, add the following information: You might require Sun Cluster HA for Sybase ASE to be able to start and monitor the monitor server. In this situation, ensure that the password for the Sybase ASE system administrator account (sa) is specified in the file RUN_, where is the name of the Sybase ASE monitor server. This name is defined during the Sybase ASE installation. For more information, see your Sybase ASE documentation. If you do not set the required password in the RUN_ file, the Sun Cluster HA for Sybase ASE data service cannot start the monitor service. If no password is set for the sa account, you do not need to modify the RUN_ file. How to Create the Sybase ASE Database Environment - Step 1 ---------------------------------------------------------- Replace the explanation of where the srvbuild utility is located with the following explanation: This utility is contained in the $SYBASE/ASE_/bin directory, where is the major version of Sybase ASE that you are using. For example, if you are using Sybase ASE version 12.5.1, is 12-5. README -- Last modified date: Thursday, August 11, 2005
