After unpacking the patch, follow the "Special Install Instructions" below to upgrade the FC switch firmware. This patch contains firmware which is installed on the Brocade SilkWorm 3250/3850/3900/4100 and 12000/24000 FC switch model. To install using other platforms, minimum FTP services is required. Please see Brocade document 53-0000518-06/ Prerequisites for installing the new firmware include: * FTP server (solaris host). * An Ethernet connection from a Solaris host to the Brocade Switch. To use an Ethernet connection, the Brocade FC switch must have an IP address assigned and the user must know the admin password assigned to the switch. Unpack the patch into any convenient directory such as /var/tmp, and refer to the Special Install Instructions below. Special Install Instructions: ----------------------------- This firmware upgrade procedure will not cause I/O interruption if using FW v4.1.0 or greater. 1. Change your working directory to the directory in which the patch was saved. Then unzip the firmware file, v4.4.0b.zip. Confirm that the v4.4.0b directory is present using the "ls" command. Do not link release.plist in this directory. 2. Invoke telnet using the following syntax: telnet where is the name or IP address of the FC switch. If securityis enable, you will need sectelnet application or ssh. 3. Verify that the current switch firmware by typing the following command at the "admin>" prompt: version EXAMPLE: sw0:admin> version Kernel: 2.4.19 Fabric OS: v4.2.2 <--- 4. For 12000/24000, at the "admin>" prompt, type hashow EXAMPLE: sw0:admin> hashow Local CP (Slot 5, CP0): Active Remote CP (Slot 6, CP1): Standby, Healthy HA enabled, Heartbeat Up, HA State synchronized 5. At the "admin>" prompt, type the command: firmwaredownload Enter FTP server where firmware exists, login, file, and password. EXAMPLE: switch:admin> firmwaredownload This command will upgrade both CPs in the switch. If you want to upgrade a single CP only, please use -s option. You can run firmwareDownloadStatus to get the status of this command. This command will cause the active CP to reset and will require that existing telnet, secure telnet or SSH sessions be restarted.
