No other programs should be accessing the library while being upgraded. Failure to heed this warning may cause the device(s) being upgraded to fail. B.2 If any upgrade failures occur, do not continue upgrading devices. For example, loss of power during download will result in damaged peripherals and require replacement. B.3 This patch only applies to Sun StorEdge L25 and L100 tape libraries. B.4 Please READ instructions below completely BEFORE starting upgrade procedure. Follow the procedures carefully. You may also refer to the Product Manual for additional information. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ C.O Patch Installation and Utility Usage Intructions ----------------------------------------------------- C.1 General guidelines for upgrading: STOP ALL APPLICATIONS. The system attached to the library and tape drives must be idle (not accessing the library) during the firmware upgrade process. DISCONNECT or take OFFLINE any other computers sharing the same I/O bus as the host. UPGRADE the tape library. Follow the given instructions in the procedure section below. In case of any disruption or unforeseen events happening, it may be that the upgraded device becomes non-functional. In this event, it will be necessary to replace the device. This would happen as a result of an incomplete or corrupted firmware file being downloaded. Loss of power during the upgrade process would also damage the device. **NOTE** If you cannot upgrade devices due to software application interference, try booting off of the Solaris release CD. **NOTE** After the firmware download is completed, it may be necessary to power cycle the device to ensure fully resetting the device. In turn, this may also require a successive reboot of the host system to ensure all functionality is restored. C.2 Procedure for Tape library Firmware Download: ************************************************************************** C.3 EXAMPLE NOTE - You may also refer to the Product Manual for these instructions. Launch the Prism Management console from a Web based browser. The first page that displays when you access the Prism Management Console Web pages is the PMC Home page. This page includes information on the library status as well as other management pages listed down the left hand side of the home page. The library status icon indicates the state of the library by two colors. This icon is also a direct link to the library status page. The user name and password may need to be entered to access the page. The colors of the status icon display the following corresponding states: Green: Library is available Red: Library is unavailable - this could be due to: initializing demo running diagnostic running (Service mode) in Standby or Stop mode Unable to communicate with library When the status icon is showing Green: 1. Access the Utilities page, under Prism Management Card Server Management 2. Select Utilities. The management frame displays the Utilities page. Accessing another page for the first time from the Home page requires you to enter a user name and password. Note: A default user name (admin) and password (admin) is provided with the installation of the Prism Mangement Card management software. From the Utilities page, scroll down to the Upload New Software Image section. 1. Under Upload New Software Image, in the text box type the location and file name of the new software image. Note: Use the Browse button to browse the network and locate the new software image. The image file must be named PMC300.4.3.1.0004.image. If the Prism Management Card does not recognize the new software image file as a valid software image, the transfer aborts. 2. Press Upload to place the new software image in a temporary area of the system. A Results page indicates the software has been uploaded. 3. Press OK to return to the Utilities page. Note: If the library is rebooted before the uploaded software image is activated, the image file is erased. The upload process must be performed again. The Prism Management Card system will use the new software image after completing the Activate the New Software Image and rebooting the PMC. Note: A progress bar appears on the screen when performing a software upload indicating when the process is complete. The new software image now needs to be activated. To move the uploaded software image from the temporary area, replace the current software image, and activate the new software image: 1. Access the Utilities page. 2. Under Activate New Software Image, press Activate. A progress bar indicates when the software has been activated. 3. Press OK to return to the Utilities page. After completion of the Activate New Software Image, the Prism Management Card system uses the new software image the next time the Prism Management Card system is rebooted. Caution: The activation process takes several minutes. Do not interrupt the process. Doing so may result in library failure and damage to the Prism Management Card. To reboot the PMC and library: 1. Access the Utilities page. 2. Under Shutdown Prism Management Card, select Reboot and press OK. The Prism Management card system reboots itself, including restarting and initializing the library. In a multiple frame environment, all libraries will be restarted and initialized. Note: Rebooting the PMC and library may take up to 15 minutes during which time the library is unavailable. Before rebooting the PMC and library, be certain there are no active or pending jobs being processed by the library. After the new image is activated go to the Prism home. The new version should be displayed as 4.3.1.0004. PROBLEMS Any problems regarding this upgrade while following proper procedures should be reported to the service provider. ************************************************************************** ************************************************************************** README -- Last modified date: Tuesday, October 26, 2004 Patch Installation Instructions: 0 Special Install Instructions: 0 README -- Last modified date: Thursday, October 28, 2004
