This directive can be global or file system specific. The directive is: scanlist_squash = [on | off] The default is 'on'. There is no change in behavior when using the default value of 'on'. However, it is recommended that you use a value of 'off' if you are one of the few customers who have archive copies configured to be created at a much later date, and wish to reduce unnecessary filesystem scanning that can be encountered as described below. If files in two or more subdirectories with the same parent directory need to be scanned by sam-arfind at a much later time, the scan entries can be consolidated. This can cause a severe performance penalty if archiving on a file system that has a large number of changes to many sub directories. When the scanlist is consolidated, these directories are combined upwards to a common parent. This then results in a deep recursive scan over many sub directories.
